Astronomers Trace How Gas Feeds a Stellar Nursery in Monoceros R2

Astronomers mapped gas motions in the Monoceros R2 star-forming region.
Dense gas moves along filaments into a central hub where star formation is active.
Lower-density gas in interfilament regions appears to replenish those filaments from the sides.
The observations support a multiscale model in which star-forming hubs are sustained by nested inflows.
