Alphabet sells majority stake in GFiber to private equity firm Stonepeak, combining it with Astound Broadband to create a major independent fiber ISP.

Taara, a company spun out of Google's moonshot division, has developed shoebox-sized devices that beam internet at 25 Gbps using invisible light beams between rooftops. The system can be deployed in hours rather than the months required for fiber optic cable installation.
