Lexus Makes Its Electric Move

Lexus has announced pricing for the 2026 ES EV, its first fully electric sedan, and the number is turning heads across the luxury automotive market. With a starting price just under fifty thousand dollars, the ES EV positions itself as one of the most affordable entry points into the luxury electric sedan segment, undercutting several competitors while carrying the Lexus brand's reputation for refinement and reliability.

The pricing strategy signals a deliberate shift by Toyota's luxury division. Rather than launching its electric lineup with a flagship model at premium prices, Lexus is targeting the volume sweet spot where most luxury sedan sales occur. The approach mirrors what Hyundai accomplished with the Genesis Electrified G80, bringing electric luxury to a broader audience without requiring buyers to stretch into six-figure territory.

Specifications and Range

The base ES EV features a single-motor rear-wheel-drive configuration producing an estimated 215 horsepower and delivering an EPA-estimated range of approximately 300 miles on a single charge. A dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant will be available at a higher price point, offering increased power and improved traction in adverse weather conditions.

Lexus has equipped the ES EV with an 800-volt electrical architecture, enabling DC fast charging at up to 250 kilowatts. The company claims a ten to eighty percent charge in approximately twenty-five minutes at compatible stations, putting it roughly on par with competitors from BMW and Mercedes-Benz. The battery pack uses a lithium iron phosphate chemistry for the base model, which offers better longevity and thermal stability compared to nickel-rich alternatives, though at a slight weight penalty.
