Dying Radio Galaxies Reveal a Shorter, More Dynamic Afterlife for Black Hole Jets
Key Takeaways
- Study led by University of Cape Town and IDIA identified 12 genuine remnant radio galaxies in XMM-LSS field.
- Combined data from MeerKAT, uGMRT, LOFAR, GMRT, and JVLA to cover 144 MHz to 1.5 GHz.
- Spectral modeling revealed a younger remnant population than expected, suggesting a shorter, more dynamic afterlife.
- Two candidates were reclassified as active, highlighting the need for multifrequency observations.
