Marcos Pushes Philippine-Made Electric Tricycles and Jeepneys
Key Takeaways
- President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is pushing for local production of electric tricycles and jeepneys in the Philippines.
- The call came during an Aug. 25 visit to MD Juan Enterprises Inc. in Caloocan City, where the company's electric vehicle manufacturing plans were discussed.
- DOST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. said the government is looking at providing equipment and technology for domestic production, with electric jeepneys also planned.
- MD Juan produced electric tricycles in 2013 and 2014 but stopped due to weak demand; higher fuel costs and rising interest in electric transport have since changed the market.
