Sceye's Flying Cell Tower Beams Mobile Signal to Japan From the Stratosphere
Key Takeaways
- Sceye's unmanned airship launched from Roswell, New Mexico on August 9 and reached Japan 13 days later, covering nearly 30,000 km round trip.
- The stratospheric HAPS platform flew at 16.5 to 17 km and held station-keeping radius as small as 5 km off Cape Muroto.
- SceyeCELL delivered mobile broadband to unmodified phones through SoftBank's core network, supporting calls, messages, browsing and video.
- A server and part of the mobile core were hosted on the airship itself, cutting average latency to 68 ms, over 40% lower than the remote route.
