Why an Ancient DVI Cable Still Connects to Modern TVs With One Cheap Adapter
Key Takeaways
- A DVI-to-HDMI adapter is a cheap, simple way to connect older hardware to a modern television.
- The two standards share a digital video foundation, which is why a passive adapter can bridge them.
- Only digital DVI variants work; analog-only ports are the wrong match for an HDMI adapter.
- Audio is not part of DVI's standard job, so sound usually needs a separate path.
