Twistable 2D Material Database Targets Twistronics Bottleneck
Key Takeaways
- A report in Science, Volume 393, Issue 6818 (September 2026), presents a database of two-dimensional materials described as theoretically twistable.
- The work centers on twistronics, where rotating one atomic layer relative to another changes electronic behavior.
- A screening database could help researchers prioritize which layer combinations to fabricate and measure.
- Theoretical predictions remain limited by real-world factors such as strain, interfacial contamination, and fabrication difficulty.
