NERC CEO Jim Robb: Four Mindset Shifts for a More Resilient US Grid
Key Takeaways
- NERC CEO Jim Robb warns the US cannot build electric infrastructure fast enough for projected demand from data centers, electrification, demographic change and industrial growth.
- Robb describes electricity as a delivery mechanism rather than an energy source, noting its value lies in fungibility across fuels such as fossil, wind, solar, water and nuclear.
- Electricity makes up a bit less than 20% of US end-use energy consumption today, a share Robb expects to rise.
- Physical limits such as finite turbine manufacturing capacity are real, but Robb argues many obstacles are self-imposed limits rooted in a 30-year-old mindset.
