Scientists Overcome Key Barrier to Self-Amplifying mRNA Vaccines
Key Takeaways
- Queen Mary University of London researchers found that adding NoV B2 helps self-amplifying mRNA vaccines overcome a key cellular defense.
- Self-amplifying mRNA replicates inside cells and can produce more protein from a smaller dose, but generates dsRNA that triggers antiviral responses.
- NoV B2 suppresses RNA interference, allowing saRNA to produce significantly more target protein in stem cells and regular cells.
- The boost in protein production was achieved without undermining the vaccine's ability to stimulate the immune system.
