Why DNA Chose Thymine: Study Points to a UV ‘Sunscreen’
Key Takeaways
- Researchers compared thymine and uracil under controlled UV exposure.
- The team reports that thymine directed damage toward a more reversible form.
- The finding may help explain why DNA uses thymine despite its UV vulnerability.
- The study was published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
