Letter Swap Study: Digital Contact May Modernize Adoption Connections
Key Takeaways
- University of East Anglia research published in Adoption & Fostering examines Letter Swap, a custom digital platform for post-adoption contact.
- Traditional contact in England often relies on agency-checked letters exchanged once or twice a year, which can feel slow and impersonal.
- Letter Swap allows adoptive families and birth relatives to share letters, messages, photos, voice recordings, and videos with safeguards and optional agency checks.
- Adoption England oversaw a pilot; early results suggest some families built stronger relationships, though researchers say it is early days.
