Newly Discovered Brain Area May Be Critical for Viable Pregnancies
Key Takeaways
- A previously unknown brain region appears essential for successful embryo implantation in mice, per New Scientist.
- The finding may help explain why some pregnancies and IVF attempts fail.
- Implantation — when a fertilised egg attaches to the uterine lining — is a key bottleneck in early pregnancy.
- The work is in mice; whether an equivalent region exists or functions similarly in humans is unknown.
