Your Favorite Playlist May Ease the Pain of a Simple Needle Prick
Key Takeaways
- Researchers at University Hospital Zürich compared four groups of 204 patients undergoing nonemergency MRI scans that required a contrast agent via intravenous cannula.
- The four arms were no music, the patient's own favorite music, relaxation music, and Mozart's Sonata KV448.
- Patients who listened to their own chosen music reported the least pain, outperforming both Mozart and purpose-built relaxation tracks.
- Participants rated pain on a visual scale from 1 (no pain) to 10 (worst pain of their life) before the procedure began.
