Oncolytic Virus Plus Chemotherapy Tested in Phase 2b Pancreatic Cancer Trial
Key Takeaways
- The VIRAGE randomized phase 2b trial was published online in Nature Medicine on September 30, 2026.
- It tested an intravenous hyaluronidase-expressing oncolytic adenovirus given alongside chemotherapy.
- Participants were treatment-naive patients with metastatic pancreatic cancer, a population with limited treatment options.
- The hyaluronidase component is designed to break down the hyaluronic acid-rich stroma that shields pancreatic tumors and impedes drug delivery.
