Cychlorphine: An Opioid 10x Stronger Than Fentanyl Gains Ground in the US
Key Takeaways
- Cychlorphine, a synthetic opioid up to ten times more potent than fentanyl, has been officially linked to more than 40 fatal US overdoses in two years.
- No standardized rapid test exists for the compound, so the real toll is likely much higher than confirmed figures suggest.
- It was first identified just two years ago by the US Center for Forensic Science Research and Education and belongs to a separate class of synthetic opioid agonists.
- Global surveillance has found it in close to 200 seizures across 10 countries, with at least 78 deaths attributed to it.
