Porsche Halo Supercar Reportedly Swaps Audi Bones for a Flat-Eight
Key Takeaways
- A German report says Porsche's next halo supercar is internally called the S1 and will use a flat-eight engine, abandoning an earlier plan to borrow Audi Nuvolari bones.
- The flat-eight would make the S1 the first road-going Porsche ever built with that layout, echoing Porsche's H8 Formula 1 entry and the 908 World Sportscar Championship racer.
- Porsche previously built a running flat-eight prototype in a modified Cayman chassis: twin-turbo 5.0-liter, 750 hp, 738 lb-ft, 9,000-rpm redline, manual gearbox.
- The prototype was shelved when Porsche decided it wasn't the right car for that moment in time.
