EPFL's Thread-Thin FiberMotor Slides Like a Telescope to Power Soft Robots
Key Takeaways
- Engineers at EPFL in Switzerland have developed a flexible motor called FiberMotor that looks like a thread.
- The device is described as sliding like a telescope, extending in a way comparable to nested telescope segments.
- The stated applications are soft robots and wearables, both of which struggle with bulky rigid motors.
- A thread-like, flexible actuator could be routed and integrated into pliable structures rather than designed around a stiff drive.
