Substation Exit Design: Covered Conductor Systems for a Denser Grid
Key Takeaways
- The substation exit is the short, high-consequence section where station capacity divides into individual feeders.
- A fault close to the station can interrupt many circuits at once, giving the first spans unusual reliability weight.
- Distribution systems are trending toward higher feeder density on constrained station sites.
- Covered conductor and spacer-cable systems change how conductors respond to incidental contact, but covered conductor is not touch-safe insulation.
