A New Push to Build Cancer-Control Policy Around Young Adults
Key Takeaways
- A Nature Medicine article published online on 24 September 2026 addresses how cancer-control policy should be developed to tackle the cancer burden among young adults.
- Young adults sit between pediatric and adult oncology frameworks, leaving them underserved by screening, prevention and care pathways built for other age groups.
- Diagnosis in this age band can be delayed because symptoms are less readily attributed to cancer in younger patients.
- A cancer-control approach spans prevention, early detection, treatment, survivorship and palliative care, plus fertility, mental health and financial protection.
